Welcome to my website.

The aim of this website is to give individuals access to all the information and some tests they need to take control of their own health. Everyone should follow The general approach to maintaining and restoring good health, which involves eating a stoneage diet, taking a basic package of nutritional supplements, ensuring a good night's sleep on a regular basis and getting the right balance between work, exercise and rest. Because we live in an increasingly polluted world, we should probably all be doing some sort of detox regime. Start with Your very good health!

Please, also note that what is contained within this website are my opinions, which I believe have a scientific and logical basis. Some of the advice may be over and above National Guidelines. To access NICE Guidelines please go to NICE

Symptoms and tests help identify the underlying mechanisms that cause disease. Common mechanisms include allergies, sugar and carbohydrate addiction, poor mitochondrial function, poor antioxidant status, poor thyroid and adrenal function, toxic stress, poor detoxification and methylation and so on. All these can be tested for, identified and corrected using nutritional supplements and possibly hormones. Once the general approach to restoring health has been applied, these tests will help to identify the bolt-on extras for other disease processes.

CFS / ME sufferers looking for advice on their condition may find it helpful to begin by reading the article "My approach to treating chronic fatigue syndrome".

To get the best out of this website, please also read:

Please feel free to discuss any of this with your physician who is welcome to get in touch with me directly to discuss any of the advice in this website.

If there is a subject you would like me to address, please, tell me and I will put in an appropriate web page.

If you find anything in my website with which you disagree or you feel is out-dated or illogical or whatever, please do contact me directly. I am happy to amend entries given good reason.

New and updated articles on the website

This site will never stand still - new articles are being added all the time. Links to pages older than two months can be found in the News archives.

♦ All test interpretations, and test orders, including the Mitochondrial Function Test, have now been suspended for "new patients" until further notice. This is due to my excessive workload. Please watch this space for news of when testing is likely to be resumed. You are deemed a "new patient" if you have never received advice from me before (by way of a face-to-face or a telephone consultation, or a letter of advice based on a questionnaire, or an interpretation of your test results). Current patients can access my advice and tests in the usual way.

May 2015

A recent paper (May 2015) entitled "In silico analysis of exercise intolerance in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome", published by Nicor Lengert and Barbara Drossel in the journal "Biophysical Chemistry", provides further confirmation of Dr Myhill's jointly published papers. In particular, the paper describes how the cardinal symptom of prolonged recovery time after minimal activity results from reduced mitochondrial capacity. The full text of the paper can be located in the "External Links" section of CFS - The Central Cause: Mitochondrial Failure .

April 2015

Acumen Laboratory will be closed for an annual break from Saturday 2nd May until Monday 25th May 2015 inclusive. All the Acumen Laboratory tests offered on this website will be suspended for that period. This includes the Mitochondrial function profile as the majority of the profile tests are performed at Acumen. For those who already have a test kit for an Acumen Lab test, the last date for posting samples within UK is Thursday, 30th April (1st class post). Samples from outside the UK must allow the appropriate transit time. Test kits will be posted out in chronological order.
