Pain is just a symptom and a very important one at that. People born with no pain sensation look like major accident victims. Pain tells us exactly how much we can do with our bodies, either by accident or on purpose, without damaging it.
As with fatigue, one should work hard to try to establish the underlying cause(s) of that pain and then address the cause. Simply taking painkillers stops the body’s early warning system from working and the situation then winds up so eventually the painkillers become ineffective. There is another risk here – pain is a learned response and if one does not work out the cause of that pain then the pain increases. This is the body’s attempt to try to make one sort out the cause.
