Please, make sure you have read When not to use this website to ascertain whether having this test is an appropriate and safe course of action for you.
Incomplete digestion of proteins produces short chain polypeptides which may mimic hormones, neurotransmitters, cytokines and chemotactic agents. This test may help explain inexplicable reactions to foods.
Requires 4ml of blood in a green (heparin) tube
The kit for this test includes a green topped lithium heparin blood tube, a plastic blood tube carrier and a plastic bag for sealing the sample, a request form and a pre-paid envelope for sending the sample to ACUMEN laboratory.
The blood sample should be taken 1.5 - 2 hours after a meal that includes protein. The foods chosen should reflect the usual main meal of the day and have regard for any dietary restrictions already in place. Failure to do this can lead to false negative findings.
Please let me have the details of your GP and any diagnoses which you have been given so that I can write to him/her with the results of the test and my comments and suggestions for management.
- Please, note that there is an interpretation fee for my letter to your GP. See Ordering Tests for more details.
