DESCRIPTION
Sweat is an extremely useful and reliable measure of levels in minerals. Sweat essentially is the liquid from blood but without the cellular and proteinaceous material. Therefore, it accurately reflects what's going on inside the body. In assessing toxic load in any person one needs ideally to look at pesticides, volatile organic compounds and heavy metals: this test is an excellent way of looking for these heavy metals. It also gives a chance to assess to element levels. Low levels of trace elements increase the toxicity of heavy metals and, conversely, good levels of trace elements reduce the toxicity of heavy metals. The other joy of this test is that it can be done at home.
There are two tests available:
- Sauna sweat toxic metals - £115.00
- Sauna sweat toxic metals, pesticides and VOCs - £215.00

INSTRUCTIONS
The idea here is to take a sample of sweat from the hand. The patient is made to sweat by getting hot, such as in saunaing or a hot bath. The sweat from the hand is collected in a plastic glove until about a teaspoon of sweat has accumulated in the glove and the whole glove tied off and sent to ACUMEN for analysis.
Latex gloves are not suitable. Ideally use a polyethylene glove (the type available at petrol stations to prevent dirty hands when checking oil or tyre pressures). Just before the test, patients need to wash their hands carefully using simple soap and rinse well with tap water. Finally rinse off the hand to be tested with de-ionised water (this is purified water and available from any pharmacy). The hand is allowed to air-dry (don?t use a towel) and then the glove is put on that hand. The patient then has to sweat - this could be in a hot room, a hot bath (obviously keep the hand out of the bath!), far infra-red sauna, exercise or whatever. Once you have got about a teaspoon of sweat (which will run off the hand and accumulate in the glove), massage it into one of the glove fingers and tie off the whole glove. Place the glove and its contents into a sealable polythene bag and post down to ACUMEN in Devon.
- Please note that there is an additional interpretation fee for my letter to your GP. See Ordering Tests for more details.
